Lifeline

What's the point of giving out advice if you're really not going to adhere to it yourself? A lot of times, things are easier said than done. I've totally been there. But now that I blog so much about life, I find myself saying a lot things. Things I want to do or a way I want to act. In real life, I can get away with saying that stuff out loud and most people would forget about it pretty fast. But here, my words are immortal (as as immortal as the internet is) so I really gotta watch what I say. This is not only true for a blog but for any social site. Facebook, I'm lookin' at you!

In an effort not to fall into that pattern of not listening to myself, I took a cue from my own post and mixed together lace & polka dots. I think it's a super subtle way to pattern mix. But nothing I do is subtle so of course I threw another pattern in my hair via this scarf. I may skip over my own life advice but I'm darn set on following my own fashion advice!

Five For Friday: Best Summer Vacation Movies

The only thing I love more than taking a roadtrip, is movies about people taking road trips. Whether travelling with a family or a good group or friends; there is something so humorous and relatable about these films. In no particular order, here are 5 movies you must watch before travelling this summer!

1. Tourist Trap
Not to be confused with the retro thriller. This is a classic movie of a dad forcing his family into a car for what should be a fun trip to see some history. It leaves me laughing the whole way through at just how true it is. (Bonus: A young Ryan Reynolds!)

2. Pee Wee's Big Adventure
I absolutely love Pee Wee Herman! He inspires me in so many ways. I cannot confirm nor deny that he inspired me to take my own trip to Texas to explore the basement of the Alamo.

3. National Lampoons Vacation
This is the first installment of the Chevy Chase series and it still holds up to this day. Many quotable lines and young famous faces to find.

4. RV
I really hated this movie the first time I watched it. I don't even know how that is possible with the star studded cast. Luckily I've grown to appreciate it and now I just wish that I could be stuck in an RV with my family on a horrible vacation!

5. To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar
I've probably mentioned this movie more times than one on this blog.I guess that's what happens when you really like a movie. This is worth a watch if you like drag queens (hello, vintage RuPaul!), quirky small towns, and of course a good road trip.

What movie would you recommend adding to this list?

Guest Post w/ Ruta {Look Ugly in a Photograph}

While I'm away vacationing it up, I've put my blog in the incredibly capable hands of Ruta from Look Ugly in a Photograph! Her blog is fantastic, just like her. I asked her to talk about a favorite vacation and show what she would wear for it. I think her outfit is divine and her story is very interesting. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks again, Ruta!
Hello (new) friends!
I've never been the biggest vacation person, not that I don't like to go on vacation (because I do), but my family has never gone on too many "actual" vacations. You know, the kinds where you spend months talking about everything you'll pack (then forget most things), where you escape to some fantastic location and take hundreds of photos that you turn into 50 albums on Facebook to make all your friends jealous? Yeah, not too many of those.
Last summer I went to Lithuania to visit my family, and then escaped to Paris for week (which was tres fantastique). While, I would gladly go to Europe anytime, honestly, just give me a ticket and I'll be on my way, those types of vacations aren't exactly realistic all the time, especially when you're fresh out of university and trying to decide what on earth you'll do with the rest of your life. This got me thinking about the fact that a vacation, the way most of us think about it, is simply a social construct. A vacation can be anything, we just have to let our imaginations run wild.
I've lived in Toronto for most of my life, and I've only just started truly appreciating all the incredible locations that one can escape to for some peace and quiet. Walking down by the lake is definitely one of my absolute favourite things. The fresh air, the skyline of Toronto, the secluded spots to sit and think; what's not to love? While it may not be a trip to Paris, it's a small getaway nonetheless, and sometimes that's all we need; a day spent in a quiet spot in our hometown, appreciating the beauty around.
So, if you're like me, and vacations to Paris continue to be dreams, make the most of what you already have! Adventure is everywhere, and vacations, they can be anything and everything.
